From the Headmaster
Now that I have finally ventured into a mall recently, I realized Christmas is coming! How time flies. There are only six weeks remaining in this semester. We hopefully have come through the heaviest rains for this typhoon season. It seems that the rain and wind loved Baguio more this year!

Aside from the weather, this has been a smooth and relatively quiet semester for Brent. I do not mean that there is an absence for frenzied activity, quite in contrary. In the midst of all our daily activities, the school has run smoothly. For this we can all take a pat on the back for our efforts to make Brent Baguio a wonderful place to be.

Please mark this important date - Dec. 7 (Sun) - on your calendar. Brent Baguio will have our traditional “Lessons and Carols” at the beautiful St. Nicholas Chapel.  Let us all make an effort to be together for this very special event.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Mr. Dick B. Robbins

From the Deputy Head

We always take pride in the caring support and oneness of the entire Brent community for the school’s activities and programs.  The UN Day in October which was certainly educational, wholesome, and fun is a testimony for this prevalent community spirit in school. Our continued appreciation to all. May this spirit continue to support the upcoming events:

  • The P100 for 100 non-uniform day for all Brent Schools when all are urged to come dressed up, representative of an era or group in Brent history ~ Token prizes await individuals and groups! All proceeds are earmarked for the completion of our Centennial Reflection Room beneath the Chapel.

  • The Community Outreach gift-giving Christmas activities of both Lower School and Middle School ~ Canned goods are piling up now at the Deputy Head’s Office for these purposes.  STUCO and its “Can The Deputy Head” project  is solely for this Community Sharing activity.

  • Visit the Christmas Bazaar at the Gym on Nov. 29 & 30 for the completion of your Christmas shopping list.  You will be sorry if you miss this activity.  All Bazaar proceeds are for Community Outreach activities particularly the Medical-Dental-Optical Mission Day in April  2009.

Cheers to you all for your Community Spirit!

We laud the Guidance Office, the Library, and the Modern Languages Department also for the observance of November as a Career and Literacy month.  Their combined efforts are bringing to the Brent family all the various career talks, the Scholastic Book fair, and the Readathon.  November always promises to be another involved month for all!!

From the Director for Academic Affairs

I hope all families had an enjoyable and refreshing October break, and that students have returned ready to give maximum effort to their studies.

As we approach what is customarily the busiest time in the School Year, it is worth noting that:

Exams for Middle and Upper School students are now only just over four weeks away!
(Monday-Wednesday, 15-17th December)

As for last year, exams will be held in Griffiths for Grades 9-12, and in Ogilby for Grades 6-8. For the three days, we would need passers-by to remain quiet in these areas please, and we are sorry that Griffiths will not be available for packed lunches on Exam days. (Middle and Upper School students will be dismissed, as usual, at 1pm on Exam Days, and should go straight home to complete final review for upcoming exams. Lower School students will continue to attend classes as normal for their full day).

NOW is the time for students to review the work of the semester and ask the teacher if unsure about any topics. The challenge for our students is to strive for balance between their academics and the many activities happening now – while at the same time maintaining their health and getting sufficient sleep! Quite a challenge, but one our older students must master, in preparation for College.

As we welcome back our Senior Administration Team from the EARCOS Administrators’ Conference, it is worth noting that another batch of 20 teachers, coaches, guards and maintenance personnel – completed a Red Cross First Aid and CPR Course at Brent last Saturday. We thank all of these people for giving up their weekend time to be ready to help our students and others, if and when the unexpected happens.

PTA Corner

Dear Parents, Students, Teachers, and Staff,

The PTA Board is tremendously grateful for the time, energy, and support each one had given to the school to make UN Day the success that it was.

We will be sending out a separate newsletter thanking each one of you that have contributed in one way or the other for making this special event a memorable one.

If this positive energy is an indication of your generosity of spirit, we can expect this coming Brent Day to be the best and most outstanding event we ever had.

We ask you to please join us on Wednesday, 19th November at 3pm at the Little Theater for the 2nd PTA General Assembly for a more detailed summary.  A surprise awaits those who show up for the assembly.
